When it comes to talking to an audience, James’ use of humor, showmanship and a true passion for inspiring audiences have made him a sought after speaker at national conferences, corporate events and local town hall meetings.

James is also a familiar face to people in the Pacific Northwest and around the country when

disasters strike, through his appearances on local radio and TV stations, and nationally

on The O’Reilly Factor, CNN, The CBS Evening News, and NPR.

James also works as a communications, marketing, and development consultant for organizations throughout Oregon and the west and has received distinguished service

awards from the American Red Cross, Oregon Emergency Management Association

and the Western States Seismic Policy Council.

Learn more about James’ career as a Marketing, Public Relations, Social Media and Broadcast professional.

James Roddey is a nationally recognized natural hazards expert, and public relations and marketing professional. He’s also trading his role as “Prophet of Doom” in the Pacific northwest for a job as public relations manager at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, so will no longer be available for speaking engagements, unless you want a talk about aviation and aerospace issues.

A gifted speaker and storyteller, his presentations to audiences large and small, included elements you'd never expect to hear in a disaster talk, including earthquake oral histories and legends from around the world, scientific detective stories, group exercises and even jokes about hoarding wine, baking cookies and stealing tsunami signs.

Watch this update on YouTube of an amazing animation originally created by the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network. I've added commentary about what people would experience in a magnitude 9.0 mega-quake as you watch the Cascadia Subduction Zone  (CSZ) rupture in real time.  The CSZ is a 650 mile long earthquake fault that sits about 75 miles off the PNW coast - What happened in Japan during their magnitude 9.0 earthquake and tsunami in 2011 could happen here at any time. The risk is serious and the consequences are very real and troubling.
